OIL
TANKER
creates yet another catastrophe....
CONSERVATIONISTS
estimate up to 100,000 birds have perished in Europe's worst environmental
coastal disaster. The oil tanker Erika broke up and sank 70 km south
of the French Brittany coast, releasing 11 million litres of oil.
The tanker's two halves, believed to still contain some 23m litres
of fuel, are still in 120m of water. Over 350km of coastline has
now been polluted with crude oil.
Looking-Glass
say: International regulations to raise
standards in oil tanker build structures and their operations has
been long overlooked.
FLOODS
CONTINUE in Central and South America...
REPORTS
continue to emerge of extreme weather conditions affecting many
regions of Central and South America. At least 30,000 people are
now believed to have died in floods and mud slides in the Northern
coastal region of Venezuela.
