THE FUTURE IS RED The most comprehensive analysis of global conservation ever was recently published in 2001 by the World Conservation Union. The Red List of Threatened Species describes over 11,000 animals and plants, which are soon likely to disappear forever. Of these plants and animals at risk of extinction, over 1,000 are in Central / South America and Mexico, where poverty, logging and poaching shrink habitats and decimate species, according to the study. It is now estimated that the current extinction rate is up to 10,000 times higher than it should be under natural conditions. Of course the main reason for such devastaing results is the human race - being the non-integeral "element" of the planet - which has destroyed the natural balance of Earth's biodiversity. Deforestation, over-fishing, agriculture, poaching, pollution and global warming are all causing disastrous effects and overall instability througout the world.
