Because direct donations are so
few and far between it was finally decided that Looking-Glass
had to try and find a solution - a way which might help this non-funding
dilemma. The site applied for various affiliation programmes and
has been accepted on these. However, the general ethics and philosophy
throughout Looking-Glass clearly shows our passion for encouraging
all things environmentally and animal friendly - vegetarian and
humanely acceptable. So, choosing companies and shops for the
general public's use in the "Mall Across the World"
for example, has caused a moral dilemna.
We would love to only promote companies and shops that we know
trade with clearly defined green and animal friendly policies,
but this is simply impossible - that is if this site is to survive.
So in our Mall Across the World we have chosen shops and services
which we feel blend in as close as is "broadly" possible
with our ethics. We are not outrightly promoting anything specifically
unethical, but we realize that some of these stores may, for example
sell leather goods within their own departments, and products
tested on animals. Of course, we do NOT point any shopping links
at any direct product that we know is unfriendly to animals or
the environment etc. We of course understand that air travel services
might be considered a non-green service, since that can mean pollutive
aircraft journeys ... (but the reality is that we all sometimes
need to travel long distance using such means!). And, please also
note that "organic" food delivery companies invariably
have organic meats on their product lists.
With this in mind, we leave you to to take careful responsibility
of what kind of green and animal friendly products your purchase
from these establishments ... Use your ethical conscience and
therefore choose humanely and wisely.
Please also note that our "Good Cause Shopping Store USA",
which is stocked and run by an American company called VStore
have made it nigh on impossible for us to monitor which health
supplements sold there are suitable for vegetarians. We therefore
advise you to check the ingredients on each product listed and
reject any showing that they contain animal products. i.e., gelatin,
bovine etc.
The overall point being that we have chosen what we believe to
be a reasonably ethically "balanced" selection of fine
stores and services for our more mainstream visitors.
Remember that apart from affiliated banners which promote products
beyond our ethical control, our VeggieGlobal
Classifieds site is solely
designed to advertise green and animal friendly products. All
ads in the named categories are specifically for vegetarian and
environmentaly friendly placements.
By opening the sites up to this
mainstream shopping concept via our Mall Across The World and
scattered banners, we hope the positive "pay off" will
be that the true ethics of Looking-Glass will also inspire our
mainstream vistors about the issues we raise around these sites!
Perhaps, with enough truely ethical products advertised here we
may eventually be able to resolve into a completely green and
harmonious environment throughout ALL its shopping pages.
