Rolda
Rolda is a small
group of volunteers based in the city of Galitzi, who with
little money and no government support are working to save
the stray and abandoned street dogs. Many of them are puppies,
orphaned through the brutal killings of their mothers by the
city's dog exterminators.
In 2001 the Mayor of Bucharest declared war on the street
animals and other towns quickly followed suit. Thousands of
dogs are still being brutally hung, beaten to death, skinned
and poisoned in a barbaric attempt to reduce their numbers.
The authorities express no compassion or interest in finding
humane alternatives to controlling the number of strays, such
as spay/neutering.
Rolda have since been raising funds to accomplish their dream
- to protect their country's animals with clear, practical
and completely humane solutions.
Besides running their shelter, Rolda
also takes on the huge responsibility of trying to educate
their country's people. They promote the importance of respecting
the lives of animals and the necessity of spay/neutering pets
in order to stop the overpopulation problem. The charity organizes
a "National Homeless Animals Day" each year and Roldaurgently
needs assistance through donations from across the world.
