Adrian
Henri |
Although
as much an artist as a writer, Adrian Henri made his name in as one
of the Liverpool Poets along with Roger McGough and Brian Pattern.
While bands of the post war decades thrashed out the musical backdrop
of the 1960s an 70s with guitars and drums, Adrain Henri's pen provided
a definitive narrative, during the most influential periods in pop-culture.
He died in December 2000, and in the opinion of Looking-Glass, the
finest poet of the late 20th century. |

Stir
in a little Alice, a touch of Narnia and a sprinkling of Lord of the
Rings... and set in the most originally conceived vision of alternate
dimensions.
Part one of this trilogy, Northern Lights (aka The Golden Compass)
was first published around 1995 and the next two followed within three
or so years. Although the first instalment won the Carnegie Medal
for children's fiction, the trilogy has since risen to be the most
popular fantasy series for both kids and adults alike.
His Dark Materials continues to gain popularity each year and will
no doubt be recognized as one of the most highly regarded fantasy
classics ever .... leaving Harry Potter way behind in the running.

This was once standard issue for the creative apprentice and the ultimate
companion for achieving the natural high, (ie. tearing strips off
the cover to make roaches). But Lord of The Rings has entered into
mainstream commercialism due to the immensely successful film trilogy.
Because of this, a new generation of Ring fans have emerged who haven't
even read the books. |

Having
only listened to Mr De Bono in conversation on the radio, I recognized
a similarity to my own philosophy. So much so in fact that as he spoke,
I found myself mouthing his summaries in sync, word for word! However,
having not yet read his books I cannot comment on his written dialogue
and consequently their conclusions. |
